Queens' 4 Hughes Hall 1

After a frosty morning (in which a morning game I was due to play in was called off!), the Queens’ groundsman did a great job in ensuring the pitch was ready for our afternoon kick off against Hughes Hall. The cold conditions were enough to put off a couple of queens’ players from attending the game, so we only had 10 players on the pitch and we were playing against a team which we lost 5-3 against in the semi-final of the cup in april. But the Hughes Hall team this year did not possess the same quality as last year and Queens’ started attacking from the off, creating multiple chances and with Itzam, Gustavo and Martin dominating the midfield despite being outnumbered with our 4-3-2 formation.
Our defence was solid as ever, with Pete, Me, Mark and Matt having played in the last 4 matches straight and the opposition were having no luck trying to get through. The first half ended 1-0 with a goal from Yue although we should have a had a lot more! In the second half, we were again dominating but the Hughes players were beginning to get more confident and the queens players tired a little and Itzam got caught by a late challenge and had to go off to recover so we were down to 9. At this point Hughes equalized, and we pressing for more so it took some resolute defending to hold them off. After Itzam came back on (very bravely and limping considerably), we pushed forward and Tom finally took one of his numerous chances to put us in the lead. After this, we continually hit Hughes on the break and scored a couple more goals from Gustavo and Tom again to put the match beyond doubt. It was a good performance from Queens’ where we dominated throughout, as so many of our games this year have been like, and we got the points we deserved (unlike some other games!).

Team: Dan, Pete, Andy, Mark, Matt, Martin, Itzam, Gustavo, Tom, Yue.
Goals: Yue, Tom (2), Gustavo.

Final game of the league season this weekend against Top of the league Selwyn so should be a very challenging game!! Come on Queens’! P.s. Selwyn always play their games on a sunday, so i have a feeling we'll have to play on sunday, sorry!
