Queens' 2 St. Johns' 2

Tough game against a strong St Johns team which were promoted from div2 this season and had beaten catz and corpus in their first 2 group games. They have 2 pacy strikers and a battling midfield and as well have a couple of quick, tall and dominant centre-backs.

We started the game badly, not retaining possession well enough as Johns harassed us in midfield and we had to fight uphill. They scored a goal (which i thought was miles offside) and could have had a couple more and we were mainly playing on the counter-attack with tom and gabs having a few half-chances so we went 1-0 down at the break.

In the second half, we played much better football, keeping the ball well and stopping John's playing almost completely and had lots of chances before Gareth converted a gabriel cross to equalise, and then a few minutes later, Gabriel put us into the lead. However, Johns hit a goal on the break after we'd pushed up too far and tried to play the offside trap (not a good idea without linesmen in hindsight). Soon after this Dan got taken out by their striker and was concussed for a minute, though he badly stood in goal for the final couple of minutes of the game before going off in an ambulance to stay overnight in the hospital. He's OK now though thankfully, and just as mentally able as he ever was ;-)

Team: Dan Cook, Dan Bolland, Andy, Adrien, Matt Miller, Gareth, Herve, Matt Wells, Stefan, Tom, Gabriel
Goals: Gareth, Gabriel
