Jesus 2 Queens' 1

Unfortunately, Queens' lost this week in a very tight encounter with a very good Jesus team. In the first half, we were all over Jesus, dominating the midfield battle thanks to Paul and Itzam and creating lots of chances. Unfortunately, Jesus nabbed a lucky goal on the break to go 1-0 up, but Queens' responded well with a nice goal from Tom and we had numerous chances in the first half to take the lead but none were taken.
In the second half, Jesus came alive and started to play football and Queens were on the back foot for most of the half. Jesus scored a scrappy goal mid-way through the half and we were unable to get a foothold back in the game, and so it ended 2-1 against us. The performance was sporadic from Queens' and as soon as we generate some consistency to maintain control of the game over 90mins, we'll be able to show teams how well we can actually play! It does bode well for the rest of the season, as our squad is getting stronger every week!

Team: Dan, AndyC, AndyH, Mark, Matt, Jimaan, Paul, Itzam, Peng, Tom, Martin, Abdol, Bastian, Jose, Yue

Goal: Tom Baden (again! thats 6 goals from 3 games for Tom now)

Jesus v. Queens, Sat 29th, 12pm @ Jesus

Big game this weekend, a game that we have to win in order to maintain realistic aims of retaining the MCR league title we currently hold (and the trophy george currently sleeps with!)

We'll be meeting at 12pm at the cricket pavilion, and playing on the pitches onsite with a proper referee. For a map of where it is, check out here

For a current league table and top goalscorers chart (where our very own Tom Baden is currently top scorer with 5 goals! although i think that after catz won 16-0 they may be challenging for that honour), click here

Queens' 7 Engineering 1

An excellent performance against Engineering gave Queens' a much deserved first victory of the season. We controlled possession throughout the game, especially in midfield where Gabriel, Itzam and Jose excelled. The first half was a close game, with both sides trying to play football although engineering appeared to more directly (i.e. long ball game!). We went 2-0 up and then near the end of the half we conceded a goal after one of engineering's long balls finally gave them a chance which they took. The second half was much more clinical from queens' with consistent attacking into the oppositions half and we were rarely challenged defensively.
Overall, a very pleasing result and performance (and some more useful players unearthed to aid queens' cause!)
Goals: Tom Baden 4, Jose Hartasanchez 2 (albeit one got a bit of help from the defender!), and Gabriel got the other
Team: Dan, Pete, Andy, Mark, Matt, Jose, Itzam, Gabriel, Peng/Tao, Adam, Tom. (all very biblical names according to Dan!!!)

Churchill Match Report, lost 4-2

First league game of the league means only one thing: making sure we have enough players on the pitch! After achieving this primary objective (had 16 players so objective achieved with panache!), the next thing to do is try to work out where to play everyone and try to get the team settled. Unfortunately, our opposition had already had 3 friendly games prior to this league game and also had managed to retain most of last years players so they had a settled team of good footballers. Not good news for us!
The game started and immediately we were on the back foot, with our midfield struggling to get any kind of hold on the game and the defence not playing as a unit either, and we went 2-0 down within the first 15 mins. For the rest of the first half, after a reshuffle in midfield, we manage to hold our own and had a few chances ourselves but failed to convert any.
For the second half, we came out and in almost the same manner as the 1st half, conceded two unlucky goals early on. But at 4-0 down, a quick attack lead to a goal and we had scored. The goal seemed to breathe confidence into the team and the defence became more solid, our midfield began to dominate. Another goal followed, and with only 10mins left, we pushed on and drove Churchill into some desperate clearances. We did ‘score’ another goal right on the final whistle, but due to the contradictory opinions of the linesman and the referee, I decided to be diplomatic and forfeit the goal. So the final score was 4-2, and at the end of the game, we seem to find a balance to the team which I hope we can take into the next game against Engineering!
Special mentions to Simon (played brilliantly in midfield), Tom (clinical striker), Peter (attacking right back), Gabriel (sterling performance in maintaining possession), Adrien (although it is very unfortunate he can’t play every week!!) and everyone else played well too.
On a final note, although we have lost our first game of the season, the omens for the season are still positive. Last year, Queens’ won the league title, despite losing to Churchill! I’ll be happy if we can repeat the feat this year!
