Queens' MCR 9 Queen's JCR 1

A comprehensive victory over our JCR counterpart which gives us the pride of Queens' College!!
It was a good fun game to end the season with, and we played some very nice passing football throughout. Paul and Adrien dominated in midfield, ably assisted by Matt, Gabriel and Justin. Dan Cook played very well in only his second outpitch appearance of the season and Charlie gave us natural left-footed width, Dieter is a naturally goal keeper and made a few very good saves (though he got lobbed from the edge of the box!). It was nice game to play out in what'll probably be my last Queens' MCR game, and thanks to everyone who played and I'll see you all on thursday night for the formal!

Team: Dietar, Dan Cook, Me, Adrien, Charlie, Gabriel, Justin, Paul, Matt Rooney, Tom, Pete Croft.

Queens' 1 Jesus 4

Another year, another lost to Jesus in the cup :-(
Last year it was the cup final, this time, it was the semi-final...
This was alot closer than the score-line suggests, as we dominated the first half but couldn't convert chances against a very, very good Jesus keeper (Loxam put himself in goal, and he's one of the best keepers in cambridge). They went 1-0 near the end of the first half as a long ball over the top managed to find their dangerous striker in a little bit and space and he managed to beat the keeper from the edge of the box in what was their only chance of the half pretty much.
The second half, we push on hard but didn't get any reward and conceded a weak goal after 10mins and so at 2-0, we had to push on to try and get back in the game... we did this with a nice goal from Pete, but they were playing well on the counterattack keeping two strikers up front and their midfield was working very hard and we just didn't have enough in the tank to compete. Ah well, it wasn't our day this time....
Darwin went on to beat Jesus in the cup final 2-1 after extra time (i reffed the game and the Jesus keeper basically kept them in the game and made a ridiculous number of top class saves..)

Oh yes, and next years captain is Paul Conduit, our all-action midfielder 1st phd guy, so he'll be taking over website duties..... and the Queens' end of season formal in on thursday 17th May so I'll be putting photos up after then!

Queens' 3 Wolfson 3

This was a hastly arranged friendly game before the big cup semi so we get some match practice before the big game after a month without football, and judging by this, I reckon we need some fitness training! We only had 9 men for the game due to two of our players going down with illness on the day of the game, and wolfson kindly gave us one of their players so we played with 10 against 11. We played some great football in the first half with paul and gabriel dictating midfield and pete and tom making lots of runs and causing their defence lots of problems. and I think we won the first half 3-0. Unfortunately, in the second half, we messed up and got tired and could get the ball out of our half for very long. We were over-playing the ball and the strikers were starved of service, and they started pressurising our mistakes and putting goals past us. In the end, it finished 3-3 but we could have easily lost it, but thankfully, our unbeaten streak continues to record 12 games (at least i think its a record!)
Team: Simon, Chris, Me, Alan Phillips, Ricardo (borrowed from wolfson), Gabriel, Paul, Yue, Pete Croft, Tom

Queens' 4 Zoology 0

This game was the final group game of the tournament, where we needed a draw to go into the champions cup competition and a defeat would send us into the lower cup competition for the first time in 3 years.Queens' pitches were waterlogged (which i found out on saturday morning) so the game was hastly rearranged for coldhams common instead, which meant that the pitch was shocking and we had to put our own nets up, not a good start! plus the ref refused to go out to coldhams for the game so we had no ref :-(We were lacking quite a few regular players, so we had drafted in a number of players mates to make up the numbers so we started edgely as we didn't know each other, first half we shot into the wind and didn't create much and we weren't playing our normal cultured game, only Gabriel, Stefan and AndyB were playing well in midfield and keeping the zoology midfielders at bay, and Santiago was stopping all the long-shots and through balls from in goal.Second half was completely different, with the wind, we were able to dominant in defence and look to play intelligent balls forward though it took us a while to score, and when it did go it, it was a stefan corner than went "wind-assisted" into the net. From then on, we had the game in the bag, zoology couldn't get out of their own half and we went on to score more goals through tom, gabriel and stefan again.
Team: Santiago, David, Andy, Alex, Dan Cook, AndyB, Stefan, Gabriel, Dave, Graham, Yue, Tom
Goals: Stefan (2), Tom, Gabriel
